The Reed Switch is used as a simple magnetic field detecting sensor. When the sensor is exposed to a magnetic field, the two ferrous materials inside the glass envelope pull together and the switch closes, causing the circuit to close. When the magnetic field is removed, the reeds separate and the circuit opens. The sensor can carry up to 1.2A.

Note: Proximity and strength of the field to close the circuit must be determined by trial and error.
